10 Simple Tips for Football Season

Tailgate parties are a fun way for football fans to get together before a game. Tailgating picnics with food and beverages both feed a hungry crew and inspire team loyalty and cheer. Here are 10 simple tips to help your next tailgaiting party reduce unnecessary waste, recycle, and join the green team.

10. Use Reusable Bags
When you shop for the party, bring reusable cloth bags to the market. Use those same bags to carry the party goods to the game.

9. Choose Recyclables
Make more tailgate party purchases of recyclable materials. Glass or plastic bottles, aluminum cans, and cardboard are usually recyclable. Those are better choices than styrofoam cups that are not recyclable.

8. Reduce Packaging Wastes
Buy supplies for the party in bulk packages and transfer to reusable containers for each game. Try to find items with recyclable or reduced packaging for even greater green savings.

7. Purchase Reusable Gear
For all cups, dishes, and utensils get unbreakable and reusable materials, including cloth napkins instead of paper. Look for picnic and party sets that pack into a basket or container. 

6. Compost Your Disposables
If you must use disposables, use paper-based cups or plates that are recyclable and, preferably, compostable. 

5. Choose Reusable Pitchers
There are many choices for reusable water bottles that are a much better choice than disposable plastic containers. Better yet, serve beverages to all from large thermoses or lidded pitchers.

4. Choose Local
Find sources for local supplies of your food and beverages. This always makes better sense to help support sustainable resources.

Support your local economy by buying from your close community. This reduces the packaging and the emission expenses for transporting products.

Use barbecue gear from environmentally friendly sources and choose all natural, chemical-free charcoal.

Get one of the new, efficient camp stoves that burns scrap wood instead of manufactured charcoal briquets. 
Recycling works. Even tailgate parties can help support a sustainable world. Reuse, repurpose, and recycle whenever possible. Every little bit helps.  So, no matter what colors your favorite team may wear, always think green.
